I like the chilly season; winter, the cold, the muted colours ... nevertheless every January I look forward when the witch hazel extends its delicate petals and begins to bloom. This is probably a hybrid between a Japanese and a Chinese witch hazel family. (Hamamelis intermedia of H. mollis and H. japonica). There are some plants I feel a special "connection". The witch hazel definitely is one of them.
