This bridge is probably the most photographed subject in my vicinity. Today I have put myself in the midst of the tourist and acted as if I were one of them. When the rain started, I was suddenly very alone with my view, ...
Wikipedia says: The Kapellbrücke (literally, Chapel Bridge) is a covered wooden footbridge spanning diagonally across the Reuss River in the city of Lucerne in central Switzerland. Named after the nearby St. Peter's Chapel, the bridge is unique since it contains a number of interior paintings dating back to the 17th century, although many of them were destroyed along with most of the centuries-old bridge in a 1993 fire. Subsequently restored, the Kapellbrücke is the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe, as well as the world's oldest surviving truss bridge. It serves as the city's symbol and as one of Switzerland's main tourist attractions.
I do not know why upon upload I loose as much details and sharpness in this pic. ???
As @shepherdman said, we were there a few years ago. I love that bridge. Its such a shame that some of it was destroyed by fire. Good job they rebuilt it. Lovely shot.
Fabulous capture Mona, thanks for sharing a part of your world with us (me). I have noticed the same on some of my images, that they loose sharpness or the colour is darker than the original. I don't know if there is any fix for it.
@777margo Hi Margo. Thanks for your comment and interest. Despite the sadness that one person was killed in the fire. It was a lucky coincidence, that when the bridge caught fire (from a motor-boat burning underneath), some of the most important of the pictures have been away for restauration. On the burning bridge have been also original paintings from two other old bridges (14th century, one destroyed since a long time.) So there are actually more pictures available then places. And also now there are only originals hanging in the bridge. Some burnt to remind the people of the fire, others bright and freshly restored. At the moment the roof is under restauration so at the water tower is a dead end, and you can’t really cross the bridge.
