Sweet moment between two snow leopards (adult and nearly 8 month old).
Snow leopards (Unicia uncia or Panthera uncia) are native to the mountain ranges of Central and South Asia and are highly endangered. Suffering from persecution by humans and constantly shrinking habitat. The animals figure on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species because the size of the global population is estimated at only 4,080–6,590 adults, of which fewer than 2,500 individuals may reproduce in the wild. Therefore, the Basel Zoo supports conservation projects. 3 snow leopards are born end of May 2015 and are part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) .
