Some examples of many avalanche protection bridges on Porta Vescovo, 2500 meters above sea level. Avalanche protection is important when roads, or ski routes cross avalanche "chutes" which are natural ravines that direct or concentrate avalanches.
Very difficult conditions. Complete whiteout. I'm glad that I'm still in flash of red February. Other then a lot of white, some black and nearly no contrasts, was not there and it was difficult to have a capture at the end of the day. Also skiing was difficult,... no visibility at all.
Well, you may not have been able to ski but you didn't waste your time, I like the patterns and repetitions here and the snow has a very high key effect.
Lovely image. I hate skiing in poor visibility, it always makes me feel sick as I lose my sense of balance. Looking forward to some colour coming into your photo world in March! :-)
@jamibann Hi Issi, so you know exacly how I felt yesterday and will feeling today, as the conditions are the same or worse. ;-( I too get kind of a motion sickness, with all those bumps you do not see coming your way down the mountains. Normally I'm a rather good skier, but with near to no visibility, I feel like I have not done any skiing before. At least, it is not extremely cold. Only then I really hate skiing, when I don't see a thing, AND I loose the feeling in the extremities from the cold. Saying that I grab my stuff and off we go and get to find some blackish slopes in the big whiteout.
@mona65 Sorry you're not getting good skiing conditions - hopefully it will improve after today! We're heading off for a few days later in March. Like you, I'm a decent skier, but the whiteouts and the cold are not my friends!!!
