I good year ago I got a free entrance ticket for the Foundation Beyeler in Basel and saved it up to see the 2020 spring exhibition showing works by Edward Hopper. As we all know, such exhibitions have been closed down, but now that we are reopening it was extended until end of July. Yippee.
The exhibition focuses on Hopper’s representations of American landscapes and cityscapes. They say that this aspect has rarely been highlighted in exhibitions devoted to Edward Hopper. A lot of great pieces are on show. But somehow the whole exhibition did not touch me, as I hoped. Perhaps because I love his American Realism better? But most probably I just couldn't concentrate on his art, because of the crowd, the noise, beeing rushed and always keeping distance, etc. So I went later to the Ermitage in Arlesheim, hiked through the hills and there I found some energy, to reload my batteries and my picture of the day.
I liked how the buildings (mill, gardeners house) at the small forest house nestled in the little valley. Composite of a real picture, and a camera processed picture "watercolour".
