Sunshine on the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau massif. The weather window highlights nicely the Eiger north face in the middle.
The north face of the Eiger is one of the three great climbing north faces of the Alps and perhaps even the most famous north face in the world. Due to its geographical location, it is exposed to sudden weather changes much more than any other wall in the area. The concave curvature attracts cloud banks almost magnetically. The north face of the Eiger is long and dangerous to climb and the apparently easy lengths in particular are delicate, fragile and difficult to secure. Although it looks like a rock face, in practice, and especially at the specified times in spring and autumn, they climb the entire wall with special crampons and ice axes.
The average climbing time is 2 days. Ueli Steck († 30. April 2017 Nuptse ) did it in November 2015 in 2:22:50 as free solo.
Love the light. Certainly different than climbing in Yosemite. It has bare granite with many fissures and cracks for hand and foot holds and no snow or ice most of the year.
