Meringues from Switzerland.
It has been said that meringue was invented in the Swiss village of Meiringen (not far from us) and improved by an Italian chef named Gasparini at the end of the 17th century However as stated in Wikipedia this claim is contested by the Oxford English Dictionary that stated the French word is of unknown origin. The name meringue for this confection first appeared in print in François Massialot's cookbook of 1692.
