@illinilass @merrelyn @mittens @ollyfran @carole_sandford Thanks for your comments! Yes, it's huge, and yes, the figs are edible. And it grows wild, on an emply lot most people use to walk the dogs or as a shortcut, so anybody can help themselves to the figs when they are ready... and they should, because this tree produces two crops a year!
It used to be even bigger, with branches dropping to the floor, but some kind neighbour pruned them because they were becoming a tripping hazard. And, after the pruning, it has produced far more figs than in the past, I guess it was long due.
