January book(s)

I was inspired by Kathy and Casablanca for this one. I love their posts of their readings. I can't do the same, as sometimes I return the books to the library before I get the chance to take a group shot. So, I made this collage.
Fact is that this month I only read one obscure book, the one on the right. It is an Egyptian story for which I was not able to identify a translation in English. It goes something like "The Mysteries of The Harem - The Memoirs of a Eunuch" by Bechir-Aga or Bekir-Aga.
Then, the other two, I put aside after reading about 70-80 pages from each. Life is too short to waste it reading boring books.
Dickinson's autobiography was a disappointment. After reading Ozzy's, I thought this must be something similar. But from my point of view, the book is sold by the fame of the author. Or maybe the language barrier was lowered between me and these pages... The same happened a while ago with Nick Mason's "Inside Out", which I tried both in English and in translation.
And the third, the leftmost, is Anne Lamott's "Bird By Bird". I was enthusiastic in the beginning, because the ideas could be extrapolated to any creative act. But then it turned into a book of advice on how to write, into the details of how to create plot and characters and stuff I was not interested in. Maybe it is useful for a writer. But I could not resonate with it. So off it goes into the 'life-is-too-short" bin.
Hopefully you find some good books soon

I love seeing what people are reading and am so pleased you have been inspired. If I borrow library books I either pick them up late in the month or reborrow them in order to get my monthly shot šŸ˜ƒ

Thatā€™s the great thing about library books. Life is definitely too short to wade through a book of no interest.

Totally agree - if you don't like a book or a film, you don't have to complete it! Life is too short to waste on such things. Interesting to see yours here.

I like the collage and the book covers look interesting. I am with you on this one. I'll give a book 75 -100 pages, but if I'm not into it by then, I'll move on to something else.

They look like interesting reads!

I read fiction for the most partā€¦ thrillers, sci fi & fantasy. Nice shot of the covers.

Lovely presentation of your interesting books, I have yet to take a shot of a cover ;-)

Nicely put together! I'm not a reader...

@kvphoto @ludwigsdiana Unfortunately they are not my shots. I will do so next month. These are just downloads from the internet... šŸ˜¬ because the idea came too late.

Reading books is to much for me. I prefer a saw and sandpaper A file and a drill. It started when a got a toolbox pressent when I was a kid so I could make my own toy`s and those for my sisters and brothers. .

@pyrrhula Well, everybody has their own priorities and preferences. I think the most important thing is that one knows what they like.

Love a book sharing.

@boxplayer Thank you! Not the most fortunate "photo". Promise to take my own photos.

Iā€™m with you on that. If a book doesnā€™t grab me after the first two or three chapters I will ditch it. Too many good ones out there to waste time on the bad ones. I tend to alternate between fiction and non-fiction. I just finished ā€œThe Fires of Vesuviusā€ by Mary Beard which is about Pompeii and was very interesting. Now Iā€™m on to ā€œTranscription ā€œ by Kate Atkinson and so far, so good.

@cdcook48 Thanks. I have looked up the two authors in the local library. Mary Beard is not available. but some titles by Kate Atkinson are available so I will give it a try.
