The face by monikozi

The face

This beauty is located on the street you saw yesterday, to my left (but not included).
I don't know the story of this deserted looking beauty. I assume it is the same old story of disputed places that everyone refuses to invest in. And since the ownership is yet undecided, nobody can be held responsible.
Do you see the face?
Lovely old building, such a shame.

sleepy eyes

It would be fun to shoot in your town. What is the name of it Moni?

Looks too nice to be abandoned. Very nice shot. Yes, finally found it.

So frustrating to see the decay...
February 9th, 2022
This is so beautiful, I feel those droopy eyes watching me ;-)

I actually see two, the roof windows and within the top center cirlce

@cdcook48 Sibiu, Romania.

@joysabin Heheee... I didn;t notice the second one. Thanks for pointing it out.

That’s a sleepy face with things beneath looking a bit tired.

Peeking at you through hooded eyes!

Oh this place is magnificent, shame no one is investing in it, these places need protecting and cherishing. It also has one of my favourite architectural features - we call them 'eyebrow windows'. I can see the face!

@boxplayer Eyebrow windows? So interesting. The buildings in my town, especially those in the so called historic town (the very center of the town) feature plenty of these. They are literally called 'the eyes of Sibiu'. Last summer, there was an art project in which they mounted painted irises in those forms. It really was uneasy, to say the least.

Lovely old building....with 'scary' windows !

Sleepy eyes. What a beautiful ornate building. Hope it gets restored soon. Why is the ownership not determined?

@dkellogg In Romania, at some point, the communists have reclaimed very many properties from churches and especially from the private owners who were fleeing the country because of the regime. Most of them were therefore state owned and the state rented them to people. After the regime fell, some of the tenants bought the apartments for which they were paying rent. But, at some point, the former owners started suing the state, claiming the ownership back. Most of them are very valuable buildings, located in the heart of the town, which by itself is setting a very high value. And hence, some of the buildings are subject to such trials, which take a freaking long time, and nobody invests in them before ownership is established. But these prolonged lack of care leads to this slow and painful, sometimes irreparable, decay. Most of the buildings that get in this state are usually those that were not bought by the tenants. And the tenants leave the place, and the state does not invest, and the claiming rightful owner does not invest either. In cases where the tenants bought the places, the former owner usually gets a compensation.

It is truly a beauty! The craftsmanship that went into the ornamentation of it is astounding!
February 9th, 2022
It is so grand, and beautiful even as it crumbles. What a shame. The faces are fun!
February 9th, 2022
A beautiful building, such a shame to have fallen foul of politics! I see the two faces.
February 9th, 2022
@monikozi I get it now. I was there a year after the revolution and the country was still in major chaos. I was hoping it would have returned to some sort of normalcy by now. It was not easy staying there for 3 months by myself, but I fell in love with the country and met some exceptionally nice people.

Love the eyes
February 9th, 2022
@dkellogg Oh, that's interesting. Did you have a business opened here?
The country is still in full disorder, but not THAT bad. But also not much better.
There is a pessimistic saying around here: Romania is a wonderful country. Too bad it is inhabited.

I like these buildings! Carriers of history. Witnesses to the lives of human destinies! Great shot!
February 9th, 2022
Awesome shot. Interesting history. it's ashamed the building stands to crumble some more. it's all about politics and there off. I do see some faces.

Beautiful facade and capture of it. So sorry no one is interrested to restore it.
February 9th, 2022
So detailed and full of character.
February 10th, 2022
Beautiful architecture.
February 10th, 2022
Beautiful building. I see that here too; the old brick buildings with their ornaments up against the modern ones with flat glass or metal surfaces. I don't mind modern architecture but at times it is so uninspiring and one building looks like another
February 10th, 2022
It's a beautiful building, definitely worth capturing. And the story is similar in our country.
February 10th, 2022
Thank you very much. I am glad you like this @helstor365 and @borof

@monikozi I had an interpreter all lined up who was going to help me adopt a child. When I arrived he was no longer able to help me. I had much time and money invested and I was determined to proceed on my own. I met some nice people who helped me and I was able to locate a baby girl in Racari that was only 9 days old. It took a while, but I was able to get a court hearing in Targoviste and the judge ok'd the adoption. Her parents already had 12 children and did not want another. That was 30 years ago and my daughter is the most important person in my life. I love her to the moon and back.
February 10th, 2022
@dkellogg Oh, THAT is a wonderful wonderful story! I am glad I asked and thank you for sharing that. May you have many happy days to enjoy with your daughter.
