The Sentinel sculpture by Tim Tolkein, that stands on Spitfire Island, in Birmingham,to commemorate the site of the Castle Bromwich Aeroplane Factory that built the Spitfires. Another, more iconic, aircraft that changed the course of history...
Moominmomma is sometimes my alter ego, sometimes my real self, never sure which as God has'nt finished with me yet... I love children, chocolate, solitude, nature, music of all...
Well, I must admit that airplanes did not immediately come to mind when I first saw this photo, but I can see now how the artist worked them into the design. Unique sculpture, for sure! And I remember seeing a tribute to the Spitfires, a sculpture carved into a rock, somewhere in my travels... maybe in France? I'll have to go look through my photo albums now... Thanks for sharing this most interesting image!
@kmrtn6@psychographer@bradsworld Thank you! @parkerriverkid These aircraft figured strongly in the Battle of Britain, and its pilots, many so very young, inspired Winston Churchill's famous words 'Never,in the field of human conflict, was so much owed by so many,to so few'. I thought the shot was much in keeping with the remembrance of this weekend.
@jmj@aikiuser Yes,It takes some getting used to. People love it or hate it but generally love it ,as the Spitfire holds such a special place in British hearts.Thank you for your interest!
