We were back at the Logan Art Gallery this week for our workshop. I arrived with a very heavy load in my trolley; hoping to photocopy some of my old, old books (by the photocopier wouldn't let me, so there was that idea gone!).
So, I began tearing apart some cheap ol' books I bought at a thrift store for 50c each. Well! Everyone screamed at me to stop! I said for them to relax that these books were especially chosen for this purpose as they were coming apart at the spine and were very soiled in the middle; and that's exactly the way I wanted them.
After breathing a sigh of relief, I went back to my project of making my pages look very aged and yet, enticing enough for people to look at. My plan? To have these pages laminated - so they're weatherproof (in case it rains) - and so people can read a line of why I read and why I collect on the other side of it on a blank piece of paper.
I was also asked to make up an altered book. This is where you get an ordinary book and change it with collage and other things to make it into a work of art that tells a story. My altered book will be telling why I write books as well as read and collect them. Pretty cool, eh?
So, this is mainly my homework for the week: do up as many of the torn pages as possible... ready for the laminating machine. And fix up the altered book too in a way where people can read my message to as why I write and read as well as collect.... wow! A lot to be done in so little time! But it's on something I love.
Writer, poet, artist and prolific reader.... that's me.
I'm a collector of books, vinyls, coin purses and strange handbags... that's me too.
Otherwise, I love...
It's been hard, tedious work, but I know what the result is going to be... so I'm sure it's going to look great! :D
