Today, Gabe and Kat arrived home from the North Island of New Zealand. They were full of wonderful stories and jokes. And they also brought back some great things for us... they didn't have to, but they did.
The first photo along the top is a piece of wood form the Kauri Forest. This forest is thousands of years old and collapsed into a swamp where the trees were preserved for about 20,000 years. When the Maoris pulled found them and pulled them up, this is what the wood looked like. The resine - or sap - is the next photo. It's a soft, easily-worked item from the Kauri Forest; however, it's best to see it in a blob like this as it never sets. When you rub it on your hand, heating it up, it smells like lavendar and pine; very nice. The last photo is a hand creme made from the Rotorua mud which is famous throughout both islands of New Zeland. I did have some Rotorua mud soap once, but it dried out. This is wonderful.
The Toberone? Well, I scored a monster-sized one, so did Mum and Dad for looking after Jay the dog and looking after their house and chickens and the garden. There were a few setbacks, but nothing I couldn't handle. :)
Writer, poet, artist and prolific reader.... that's me.
I'm a collector of books, vinyls, coin purses and strange handbags... that's me too.
Otherwise, I love...
@bkbinthecity@annelis@netkonnexion@digitalrn thank you all for your lovely comments. I had a great time house sitting for Gabe and Kat. And they had a wonderful time in New Zealand. They weren't too sure what to get me - as I've been to the South Island before - and so they bought me just lovely small things... and chocolate too, of course! :D
