The Air Race which was going to be held at the West Bend Airport (about 2 miles from my house) was cancelled so I tried to take pictures of planes while I peeked through the chain link fence gaps. I was spotted and then invited to go on the other side of the fence by the otherwise restricted area. That was very nice!
I really didn't see anything that excited me very much. I found the planes themselves rather boring. I would have loved to go inside one of those small planes to take some shots, I was told photographers do rent the planes/pilots but I certainly can't justify $100 to do that, at the moment I would rather invest in some lenses, etc. When I was about 15 years old it was my dream to get a pilot's license. I joined a group called the Civil Air Patrol. I stayed for about 1 year or so (don't remember exactly). I didn't care much for wearing a uniform, having my hair pinned up and practicing marching drills. I never did get that pilots license but I still like flying.
Great capture, Kathy. That was really nice that they let you go to the other side of the fence. Interesting story, too. My husband belongs to the Civil Air Patrol.
next year, that would be my goal, to ride a small plane or a heli and shot the land or water below. i'm waiting for my macro lens filters and wireless shutter. i also ordered a 'raincoat' for the camera. i want to chase some lightning shots! :-) this is a cool shot. did you use a telephoto lens?
