There is a reason you don't find self portraits in my pictures - I don't like doing them. Once I decided to do the "get pushed" challenges I KNEW someone was going to make me do this. I guess I had to sooner or later face my fears. It's checked off the list.
@mstipe Is this one a little better. I really was trying to show as little of my face - I feel I'm too old & fat for these self portraits so I did try to blur it out a bit
I'm viewing from my phone, but I do think this one is better. I also think that you're so great with challenges you could push yourself just a tad more. Your arms behind your back signal to me that you're uncomfortable. Try something a little less head on, maybe? Angle your body, have your camera tilted slightly down to you, capture your left side (i have no idea why, but a portrait photographer being interviewed on NPR yesterday said 90% of people look better when captured from their left),and think of ways to tell the story of who you are ... Put yourself in a natural context for you, something that you enjoy doing. That might help ease the focus on the self portrait aspect. Just ideas ... You met the challenge already and that is something to he proud of. I have been too scared to join this one!
@rockinrobyn Thank you - I think if I have time later this week I will try it again with less face and take some of your ideas. Then I can delete this one and replace it perhaps.
Well done Kathy, I know how hard it is to a) photograph yourself and b) put it up for comment/critique... really scary! But this is a lovely photo, albeit you don't appear to be very comfortable about it! You have a beautiful smile and I love the wow earrings!
Hi Kathy, I see the discussion is on..sorry for not responding on it sooner it's just that kids keep me busy all day and evening is usually when I can sit down and look at 365.
I like your photo. You have a beautiful smile and face so you can pull this shot off. But I also agree with Robyn's points regarding the body language. I would not be able to do this full frontal "au naturel" selfie. I'd hate myself. Congratulations on your first selfie, I'm sure your friends will welcome it. Now I'm going to have a look at the other one.
@bardejov Oh I completely understand. Since I have my own business sometimes I check in here between tasks, etc. Thank you for pushing me to do this - I won't say it wasn't painful but sometimes it's called growing pains - right? Most of the time I don't like my pictures, I think I look fat, or old, or ugly, or whatever. It is fun "getting pushed" to try new things in photography so I appreciate it. It was one of those things I stalled out as long as possible.
