Christine is my Get Pushed Partner this week. Here is what she had to say:
Hi Kathy, I've looked through your photos and have a Get-Pushed challenge for you: I'd like to see an urban photograph - something that shows me a "city" - buildings, graffiti, people waiting for a bus.. your call.
The challenge for me is I don't live in a big city, I live about 40 minutes away from Milwaukee. Where I live I really don't see graffiti, there are no city buses, and the streets aren't all that busy, especially during January.
I did have to go to Milwaukee for a brief time this evening so I thought I would try for a city night shot. I did even manage to get a bus along with a bus trails. I didn't stay very long since I was in the city alone in the dark, I thought it would be safer to take a few shots and leave. So this is what I got.
@christinesmith Here is my city shot. I don't live in a big city but I did go to Milwaukee briefly this evening so I had to make my photo shoot brief. I hope you like it.
intriguing treatment of the bus, was it stationary throughout the shot or did its moving make some of the light trails.
Light trails is something I need to look at more. My problem is not lack of traffic but too much and erratic stop start patterns. The sheer volume of traffic means at apertures around f5.6 to f11 and low is there will still be too much light to get nice long trails. above f11 and with these strong light sources I risk based diffraction effects especially with the high pixel count of the Nikon D800. So I am going to try a variable ND filter and see how that affects things.
I feel your pain with this challenge! My town is the same . There are no people walking on the streets for interesting candid shots an the tallest building in town (and there is only ONE)is three stories tall. I think you did a fabulous job with the challenge!
I admire that you went to another town to capture it!
