Lake Michigan in Deep Freeze by myhrhelper

Lake Michigan in Deep Freeze

I am doing a wedding March 15th and the bride & groom want near lake front shots so I drove around looking for locations. This is one of the alternate locations I saw. I thought perhaps we could use that bench, Besides the Bride & Groom there are 2 bride's maids and 3 groom's men. The guys are bigger built & ladies petite. Any ideas come to your mind? Do you think this snow is going to melt on time??

I just got my like new Nikon D7000 (my D5100 will be my backup it already has 138,000 shots since 4/28/12.
This is a beautiful scene.

I did some shots for my niece's beach wedding and used the thick ropes strung between posts as seats for some shots. Great idea to use the bench. Maybe have the guys seated and the girls standing behind them with the couple standing in the center. I am sure you will figure out something because you are far more clever than i

Oh I would be hoping the snow doesn't melt. It's beautiful.

What a great location! I have no suggestions for the party as a whole, because I totally stink at posing! But would love to see a shot of them sitting on the bench, his arm around her, her veil blowing in the wind, them overlooking the water.

Beautiful capture and colors, Kathy.

You could get some action shots of the girls falling into the guy's arms from the bench :-)

hope there's still some snow around when it happens. this is beautiful with the white stuff against that blue, but with just dull browns, i'm not really sure. but that is just me. awesome shot!

@summerfield you make a good point - If it is as cold as it was today it would be hard to do a photo shoot outside but I don't know what their tolerance for cold is. I think if it melts ideally just get closer to the actual lake but hope it isn't wet and sloshy.

@myhrhelper - KB, how do you know how many shots the camera has had? can't figure it out on mine. :-)

Go to this site and download a recent RAW photo.
It takes a little while for the information to load but when it does it will give the shutter count. your camera D3100 and my D5100 I think were both rated for 50,000 so I got worried that I'm at 138,000+

@swilde Oh we are suppose to get a few more inches tomorrow again. I'm so done with winter. It's been too cold to go outside much and today when I did take a few outside shots I froze. Some shots were taken from inside the car without great composition that's for sure. My goal was to scope out locations
Thank you for the fav and your encouragement

Beuatiful but cold. I wouldn't like to predict whether that snow will clear by mid March, the climate this winter seems to be totally unpredictable anywhere! I would love the photos in the snow but I guess it gets a bit colder near Lake Michegan than it does over here and maybe the bride won't want to wear thermals!

This looks like an ideal backdrop, and should work well

I wouldn't count on the snow being melted by that time! I love your photo! It will be a beautiful shot for the wedding. I just checked my project as I recalled I took a photo in April of last year when we were having a snowstorm in Green Bay. It was April 12th! At this rate, there will be snow on the ground on Memorial Day this year!
