World Suicide Prevention Day: No picture I could take could ever describe the pain, hopelessness and loneliness of those dark moods. No picture I could take could ever describe or explain how grateful I am to those who have been there for me, those who have helped me and those who have loved me when I couldn't love myself. I will never forget.
I will also never forget those who didn't get through it. One comes to mind in particular. It is not cowardly. I refuse to believe that. We may feel angry but it's a useless emotion. That person had reached their limit, they weren't thinking about the effect on their loved ones. They were taken over by a disease, a disease which did not define them. If you're even in a position where you are contemplating suicide, please, reach out. Speak to those you trust, ring a helpline, do something to distract you, I don't care what it is, but I promise you, it will and does get better. And when it does, it's so worth it.
In other news, today I had a meeting with Love Art Leeds which was really successful, I now have more links for ETF including a potential one with Time To Change! I also seem to have stumbled upon a great community of people who tackle their mental health issues through creative outlets which is awesome! :) I then went to work and then I went to meet two 18-month-old twins who I'm going to be taking swimming weekly :)
thank you for being brave enough to be so open about such a painful and personal issue. I lost a very dear friend by his own hand 10 years ago and it still hurts that we couldn't reach him in time to help. Glad to hear that you have good support and are feeling/getting better.... keep going :)
My heart goes out to you Naomi and how brave you have been (and still are) putting yourself out there to own up to your pain and suffering. Depression is the most cruel illness, little understood and often swept under the carpet and dismissed. I'm pleased you have had help and support and can see light at the end of the tunnel.
great statement and photo, as a professor I had students come to me with thoughts of suicide, I felt woefully inadequate in helping them but as you suggested I helped call a helpline where they could get the responses that they needed and I didn't know how to provide.
beautiful shot - and you are so brave sharing your story - I hope it encourages others to be brave and to reach out - good luck to you for your future x
