Medication

I wanted to share this with you because recently there has been some media in the UK around mental health conditions being 'made up' and people with depression needing to 'just go on a run' etc.

This is the reality of long-term mental health conditions.

Every day I take two anti-depressants. I take them because they help me function on a somewhat normal level. The withdrawal symptoms are awful so if I forget, I know about it! Every month I have to go pick them up from the chemist, but I have to get them in 8 boxes. This is because I'm on a fairly uncommon type due to reacting to various others, so apparently they don't stock them in bigger doses…

Next, I have inhalers. Two types - one pink, one blue. You might not think it's mental health related but although my asthma is triggered by allergens etc. the worst attacks I've had have been triggered by stress. So every day I take two puffs of the pink one in the morning and two at night, then the blue one as and when needed.

Next, we have face gel. Basically, because my diet's not great, and if I'm in a low period, it's hard to motivate myself to get dressed nevermind washing my face twice a day, my skin breaks out at annoying times. So this stops it from being so bad.

Then we have calcium/vitamin D tablets, because I'm deficient in vit. D and my calcium levels aren't fab due to the whole anorexia thing.

And finally, we have 3 bottles of liquid iron stuff (apparently they don't do bottles big enough) because again, my bloods are wonky. I used to have iron tablets but they triggered certain thoughts in my head due to some of the side effects, so I'm trialling this.

So there we go, that's the medication life of someone with long term mental health problems.

So please feel free to tell me that mental illness isn't real, that it's all made up etc.etc.etc. but I'm afraid I'll have to politely disagree with you!
Hey, you know we all ought to ignore the British media! Just try to smile through their ignorance - when you break a bone no-one queries the plaster cast do they?????

Dear Naomi. At first , a big thanks for you visit and nice comment. I really appreciate it very much.
I`ve read you lines above and wish I could help you. This is not a place to discus it, and my English writings are to poor for it . Out of my own experiments I can tell you this have not to be all of you life. You can overgrow/heal from it.
The only advise I`ll give you is have a big thinking about you medication.
Is`n`t it not a bit much ?. And do you really need them all ? I`m not a doctor , but a sister of mine , with an similar illness , did get an urgent hospitalization of the to much medication she got medicated.
Wish you all best, much wisdom and a better health. .

Many of my friends have experienced mental health issues - some short term, some longer term. Do whatever you have to do to function and get by - and if there are times when you can't function, that's ok too. Unless someone has experienced mental illness first hand, it's impossible to have any idea what it's like - or how bad and debilitating it can be. Please know that there are always people here for you if you need us xxx
