When my neighbour, Trudy, said she was going to make shortbreads, I asked if I could join her. I’ve wanted to make them since mum died…she would always make them for Christmas…but have never done it. I wasn’t even sure of her recipe but I took a guess at one in The Golden Wattle cook book. Mine are on the right - and probably way too big!
Is there such a thing as a shortbread that's too big? There are so many variations with shortbread recipes, perhaps you need to try a different recipe.
@narayani I have an old recipe of my MiL's which is quite nice. It's a thin shortbread and a different texture to the thick shortbread fingers.

your mum will have been used to her oven - and there are probably other variables. Either knock the temperature down or reduce cooking time - add a bit more butter (and all the other things t'internet suggests!) :-D
