We were on chicken duty this weekend for the school chickens. Feeding, watering and opening the pen up in the morning and putting to bed at night. The boys enjoyed it.
Nice shot of the chicken!! It reminded me of when I taught 4th grade and would send our newly hatched chick home for the weekend with a different student each time. One Monday morning, Eddie was late, came in clearly having been crying, and had to tell us that the chick had fallen off a chair and...was no more. It was a very sad day for him and the class, but mostly I felt so sorry for him! It did occur to me that he'd solved my problem of what to do with the chick once it grew up (and we lived in a suburb, not a rural area!).
@taffy I have to confess to a slight sigh of relief to see two happy chickens as I returned the key to the school grounds at drop off time this morning!!
This is a lovely portrait and a fav. So great to see a healthy, contented chicken who hasn't been cruelly debeaked and forced to live in a tiny battery cage with far too many others. Glad your kids are getting lessons in how treat other creatures.
