Brown Capuchin Monkey by nickspicsnz

Brown Capuchin Monkey

We had a nice day out at Hamilton Zoo today. Although I'd rather see animals in the wild I appreciate the conservation work they do.
This is a sad image. I hope he had a huge enclosure.

Interesting picture, Nick, it brings out the contradiction we all face about animals in the wild and what we do to preserve the different species.

@shepherdmanswife @nitrogene @northernlad @2nutsinatree @barb_b @bkbinthecity @alinz Thank you very much for your comments. I found this a difficult image to look at because the eyes looks so sad, especially with the fence in front of his face. I know that many zoos do great work trying to conserve endangered species whilst also having to attract the public to visit to generate income to enable them to do their conservation work, but sometimes the animals look very sad. However, the zoo we visited does a lot of hard work to keep the animals healthy in body and mind. This monkey was in a very large enclosure with many others and lots of equipment to keep them occupied. They appeared to be quite content and I probably just caught a fleeting moment in time with my camera when I took this shot. But, as Bill said, I think it does highlight the conflict many of us feel.

@janewinfrey Thanks very much Jane. It certainly made me stop when I was looking through my downloaded photos.
