Sadly there are always a few homeless people sleeping on the street in the centre of Auckland. I took this when we went to The Stranglers concert so the title is quite apt. Last time we were in Auckland I came out of a fast food place and there were four teenagers lying on the street outside. I couldn't just walk past them so gave them the chips I'd just bought. Somehow I don't feel able to give money as I'd hate for it to be used to buy drink or drugs.

So sad. I wouldn't give money for the same reasons as you. Once when we lived in Melbourne I was asked if I had $2 for a coffee by someone who was homeless and we were outside a café. I said 'No', but took him inside and bought him a coffee and a sandwich though, I don't think that was quite what he had in mind, but at least he had a warm drink and some food on a cold day.
