Went out for a day trip with an ex-365er. During the day we visited the little museum in Cambridge. The ladies in there were very friendly and helpful, moving signs so that I could take photos.
This wedding dress was worn by Miss Marion Cricket when she married Mr Robert Fisher in 1877. It has a fully lined grey taffeta bodice and full length skirt, trimmed with piping, pleats, tucks and ruching. It should have more of a bustle making the back stand out more. The waist is tiny - not sure if that's because she was skinny or because she wore a tight corset. I'm very glad we don't have to live our lives in long skirts in the modern day and age.
Great shot of all the detailing on this magnificent dress. I too am glad I can wear trousers, can you imagine having to wear these kind of clothes in the hot humid climate of the north island?
It looks so beautiful, but I am glad we don't have to wear outfits like this these days. I suspect a corset was worn to emphasise the small waist. She probably wasn't able to breathe too easily.
