This used to be a local fish and chip shop then it was taken over and turned into an Indian takeway/dairy. The mini-supermarket next door didn't like the competition so bought the owner out and closed it down. It's supposed to be being redeveloped, along with the mini-supermarket, into a large supermarket, but they've been talking about it for years and nothing's happened. Not sure when this building was built but it looks sort of 1930s-ish.
For Flash of Red Feb 2020. Week 2 - Fun with Architecture.
@yorkshirekiwi I recognised this as soon as I saw it!! Small world isn't it. This was the residence for the owners who ran the fish and chip shop. I was good friends with one lot of owners back in the 80's !!
That architecture looks more like the 50's early 60's to me and at first I thought it had to be a home. It looks very residential- like the suburbs I grew up in. It sure has an interesting history! Good shot.
I love little places like this, too bad it was closed down. It still looks really good, even though built in the 1930s. Stuff was really built to last back then. Excellent shot, Nick!
@zeezee@casablanca And to make the world even smaller... I lived in the house that CoroJo once owned! I rented it from the owners when we first moved to NZ. That's how I met Carole @yorkshirekiwi because she was my neighbour. This place was still BJs when we moved to TK.
@peadar@bokehdot@rickster549@karasoo2@bkbinthecity Thank you very much everyone. @olivetreeann You're probably right on the dates. Mine was a pure guess based on the rounded shape as my nan used to have a bay window in her house that shape, lol! @cjphoto They sure were, and earlier ones too. The first two houses I owned were little old coal miners' cottages built in the early 1800s. They were mass built when there was a coal mining boom in Wales but they were definitely standing the test of time.
@nickspicsnz This is just crazy!!! Was it 44B? That was a beautiful house. We would never have left that house or TK, but sadly my husband had a motorbike accident and had to stop teaching so we moved to Hamilton where we lived for a few years. Now up in Coromandel in paradise.
