Amazing to see the crowds of people in NZ. I cried when I watched our London fireworks with no people out there at all. At least someone in the world was out there celebrating and I am glad it was you guys! Beautiful shot
@casablanca I'm sorry the new year celebrations made you feel so sad. It's a terrible situation but hopefully over the coming year, and with the vaccinations, the world will be able to turn a corner. Family members back in the UK have had Covid, although luckily not really badly but it's made us feel very far away from them. But we've been very lucky in NZ to be living fairly normal lives. As an island at the bottom of the world NZ's been able to close the borders and quarantine people coming into the country. That can't last forever though, and as we have no immunity in the community I don't know what will happen when the borders are opened up again. But I look forward with hope that I'll be able to meet up with my daughter next Christmas and my husband will be able to visit his mum in the UK for her 80th birthday in 2022 Best wishes to you and your family for the coming year. :)
@nickspicsnz What kind words, thank you so much. It has been a horrid year last year - started with three funerals for me in the first few days of January and went downhill from there! Done my best to keep as sunny as possible, but I have truthfully felt really overwhelmed at times. Lost two more people to covid and saw my best friend laid up with it for 3 months and feared losing her and have become a carer to elderly relatives in the "extremely vulnerable" grouping. But I know I am far from alone in these things and you are right - it can't all last forever. Vaccinations will no doubt help your community before you open up again to the world. Glad to hear the hope in your words. Thanks for your kindness, I really appreciate it. xx
