North Island Robin by nickspicsnz

North Island Robin

My first time seeing these little birds when @yorkshirekiwi and I visited Sanctuary Mountain. I guess these little birds got called robins by Europeans as they hop around and come close like robins, and have a lighter coloured breast (not red though). However, they're not technically robins being more closely genetically related to tomtits. In a predator-free area like Sanctuary Mountain they can live up to 14 years but are on the decline due to loss of habitat and predators. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get any good photos of the birds.
