One Ring to rule them all,
One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them
-- J.R.R. Tolkien
I'm not generally given to quoting poetry, but I've always loved this bit of Tolkien and hopefully it will help make sense of this picture. I had forgotten what a pain these set-up shots are. I think I took over 100 shots trying to get the composition and lighting just right, and it still isn't quite where I want it. But I can live with it the way it is - and for those of you like my 12 year old son wondering why I did not selectively colour the ring, the answer is: because... ;p
@shutterbugger i think they just came out... yes - i am so lame that i bought them for ME... so i could photograph them... for the theme... my children think i am a lunatic... (altho, i should prolly edit my write-up because the idea of "my precious" for the theme shot came from one of my kids)...
I'm so glad you didn't!! Lego gollum is awesome! He's such a wonderful character. Fantastic shot. Fav for coolness, the way it looks and for persistence. Impressed.
When I first read Tolkien my father finally approved of my reading material. (I was reading a lot of science fiction at that time.) I really love your depiction of this scene. I feel you did everything right here. Fav.
that's lovely - great concept and execution - I don't think I'd have selectively coloured the ring, but would have gone for a moody layer with some atmospheric colour (which would have taken me hours because I would have had to build the colours and find the skip texture I took)
@ambermagen Amber - I have to confess - I bought this set for me so I cld take this picture ;). All the other Lego shots in my project are from my kids' Legos... Well except for yoda... That one is mine, too ;p
ahh Legos......boy it sure does hurt when you step on one of those in the middle of the night;)
