After having bungled some awesome pink street shot opportunities, i am left with this... and this isn't quite what i started out with - but it's all i got, so it'll have to do :)

@jantan tx Jan! The gradient look was more accident than anything else... I was using the macro lens... Base was my black counter top... Tried black background and white background but didn't like either... So I angled the camera to have only the countertop in view - so base and background are the same :). I think flash and reflection did the rest?
