RAW Street, RAW Busticated, RAW Mess ;p

Shooting RAW again, and making a craptastic mess out of the development process by going to town with the sliders... what can i say - it's a learning experience... Oh, and if you look closely, you can see her giving me the stinkeye right before walking out of the frame ;p

All constructive criticism (on composition AND processing) extremely welcome!

Thank you all for the lovely views and comments and new follows! I am working my way towards catching up with everyone :)
Awesome

I love your word, stinkeye! It would apply to so many photographs! This is nice because it gives the impression of how heavy thse columns are and what shade they create!

Gorgeous composition

I love the composition with the line of those 3 columns. Love the shadows too. This looks great! RAW is fun to work with.

Don't say "do not play" - just say "wait a bit longer!" Great catch and I'm not sure whether it's the stink eye or just curiosity!

Very nice, i love the composition of this picture.

I like the concept, nicely composed and the stinkeye is the icing on the cake. I personally would've gone with cooler tones but that's just a matter of taste... monochrome is the way to go here I think.

I really do love shooting in the raw! It's just those darn looks I always get! ;o) I love the composition! Your tags made me laugh!

Love the light here and the composition lovely job.

"Craptastic." I think I shall steal that word! ...but not for this shot. I rather like it!

I love the comp, agree I may have gone with B&W but then what do I know :)

Love the sideways stare!

The adjustment brush can be a bit tricky but is very useful. You can press 'O' to see the overlay where it's applying the effect & use 'ALT' to get a removal brush. :)

Seems a well composed shot to me...you can see the stinkeye when enlarged. Personally I am not a fan of the pinkish tone for this particular photo, maybe cooler tones? But the photo itself is great.

I started using raw a few months ago but when I start making changes I feel like a moron because sometimes I can't see it making any difference!

I love this one! :) Viewed it large and you're right... she doesn't look like she wants to smile for the camera :) hehe You're doing a great job shooting in RAW and with the processing :)

Good for you on the RAW!

I'm gonna disagree with just about everyone about the composition. I think the columns are over whelming her and the shot, I just see the middle column as its kinda in your face. Think I would have been more to the right, just the 1st third of the frame columns and the rest her, with hopefully more of the shadow. Hmmmm, now I am not sure, I keep changing my mind about this one. I maybe back later on

You go for it, slide them sliders :D

Great street shot. Yep, that's definitely a stinkeye!

you crack me up w/ the stink eye!! I started shooting in RAW a few months ago and I seem to shoot more in RAW now. I find myself rather shooting in it! You can do a lot in processing w/ RAW. It's been a learning experience for me as well :)

Love your composition. I suppose I must read up about this raw magic... Since my cards always full I suspect it won't help...
January 17th, 2013
Love your focus on this, quite subtle and not in your face obvious :) x

@jase_h tx Jase for the honest feedback... the fine balance between person and environment continues to be a struggle for me (has been from practically day 1 - there's a discussion thread on this going back to last feb - sigh!).... i did consider cropping out some of the columns but not being a people person, and because Joey's assessment aside, she ain't that interesting, and because i couldn't bring myself to ditch the columns - i didn't... ;p cropping as you suggest would mean turning it portrait orientation (which would be fine)... her shadow gets kind of blended in with a tree's shadow, tho... i do have another shot where her shadow is clear, but picked this one because of the stinkeye ;p

but all that aside, your point is a good one... not sure whether this shot could be rescued from that particular failing, but good for me to be reminded about the balance issue...

@northy I know you can accept critiquing, so that is why I do. And yes, the balance, is a struggle I know to well as I suck at the more urban type stuff, I just don't see it like you do. Also, I am less convinced now about what I said, having looked a few more times. Hmmmmmm

I like the sliders....and you know if you double click on them they go back to where you were at the start (unless you've saved). So you can double click on the arrow after you've been sliding it around and it will take you back to start (since they don't all start at 0)

I think your doing better with raw than I am with the computer.
Good discussion in the comments

At least you caught her eye

love the contrast in the tones/lighting! :)

Love the composition and the light!!
January 19th, 2013
RAW-busticated! haha You do have to enlarge it to see..but you are busted.
January 19th, 2013
wow, love your sense of humor in the tags! makes me smile. jumpin' in is the only way to learn...i need some of that moxie myself.
January 19th, 2013
really like this - love the composition - and how she's caught in the light
January 19th, 2013
A fine composition with superb contrasts: light/shade, big solid pillars/frail human ... her position in the frame and in the light. In short, not a craptastic mess at all!
