Once in a dream... by northy

Once in a dream...

hmmm... so... back a couple weeks ago i had this idea in mind for a shot... only for a bunch of reasons, i didn't get around to it and then i forgot about it... then, when Beau (@losthorizon) came up with the music-to-photo theme and the weekly theme was "play", i thought about that idea again, but couldn't find the prop i needed... so then i tried something else that was similar, but it wasn't working for me... and i kept trying different things and ended up with a shot i almost posted and then i pulled it back and re-edited it and now i have this... and a mega headache ;p

the song in my head is "Castle Walls" by Styx (remember them?)... I'm not entirely satisfied with the result, but I'm afraid it will have to do for now...

Once in a dream
far beyond these castle walls
Down near the bay
Where the moonlit water falls
I stood alone
While the minstrel sang his song
So afraid I'd lost my soul...

I'm afraid i've been a bit absent of late... some days i just need to breathe... thank you all for the continued views and comments... I still don't know how to react to my selfie making the top 20 and the weekly theme vote... it's lovely to be noticed, but a bit overwhelming... really really feeling the need to get back to the regularly scheduled programming :)
Awesome job! And I love the story that goes with it. I can totally relate. It's not unusual for me to have 4 or 5 pictures for one day, sometimes all the same picture just edited differently, and it takes me FOREVER to decide which one to go with. I feel your pain, lol!

Love that music and it is hard to get something that suits it- the graphics are so complicated! However, I think what you have done here is simple and the imagination completes the rest!

Wow, I can see how this photo and the song go together! As for the photo itself - I really love the lighting!

@pocketmouse you nailed it! :) nothing more to add! :)

It's one of those pictures that make you ask questions, and the connect to the song is very cool.

We all need to keep our life/365 balance, so do whatever you need to keep yours! (And congrats on the recent achievements too!) :)

I do like this, do understand the frustration when it's not quite what you are trying to do too!

Awesome shot

Perfect combination of everything to link it to the song. Congrats on your photo making the Top 20.

But, despite the headache, this is a great composition. i told one of the "newbies" today that they should look at you as one of the masters at B/W.

Super cool shot. Very effective

hahaha...then you'll have to stop taking such awesome pictures! This is cool.

I don't think I'm familiar with the song, but I love the composition. Feels very poignant and the knight's detail looks great in b&w.

I love how this turned out Northy! Great b&w tones!

Simply perfect !

I remember Styx, but not the song. Nice, simplistic shot. big congrats on the selfie, btw!

I do enjoy how your mind works! It's quite fun ... the only Styx song I remember is "Mr. Roboto" :)
January 20th, 2013
@still_beachradish you must be a young'un ;p Mr. Roboto was one of their later songs... "Castle Walls" is positively ancient and, i think, predates one of their early hits "Come Sail Away"... and if you don't remember that, well, that just proves you're a spring chicken!
January 20th, 2013
@northy I totally remember "come sail away" ... Maybe more of a summer chicken ...

I love Styx (I'm a huge 80's fan :)) Great song and wonderfully fitting photo! :) Sometimes life gets very busy and crazy... we definitely all understand that :) Take the time you need to find your balance and spend time with your family. And super congrats on all your success on here with your pictures... you totally deserve it. :) hugs

Has a lonely feel. Reminds me a little of Argus by Wishbone Ash. A truly great record

Should really be viewed up large. Very nice composition, and perfect in b&w.
