This is a bit of a redo of a shot from last year... I decided to reshoot this spot again because
(a) there's the sign for the sign theme (albeit a rather lame sign), and
(2) today's mad minute word is "nepenthe" which means "a medicine for sorrow, literally an anti-depressant – a drug of forgetfulness" ... my problem with the definitions is i can't quite figure out if it's meant to be something blissful (a camera and a subway station - my perfect escape ;p) or a knock-out drug... i have a KO idea, but i'm beat and haven't the energy for a set up shot right now...
This is my second favorite subway station to shoot because of this opening which allows for tons of contrast, plus makes for a bit of a nice vista... well, after it's been etsooi'd into submission ;p
thank you all for being so kind about the (rocky) horror shot from yesterday... you really shouldn't encourage me ;p
To me it sounds like a drug that makes you drowsy, sleepy, makes everything a bit numb... not so much blissful as just unaware, quiet, dark, removed (but in a peaceful way). I love this capture - it is very stark and portrays the word well.
Woooow, I love this contrast! You're right, it's a great place to go for awesome captures. And hey, the words are open to interpretation. But if you wanna try again, you can. I really love this word. I'm obsessed!!! :D
Escaping, traveling - such a perfect nepenthe. And since train stations are places of arriving and leaving, there's bound to be some forgetting of sorrows going on there. :) Great image, love it!
Michael Rennie was illl the day the earth stood still....
great work! :D
Cool word - trains are interesting places for drifting into your own world.
