the light at the end of the tunnel by northy

the light at the end of the tunnel

for get pushed this week, Jacki (@jav0930) challenged me to "capture hope, hopefullness, 'the light at the end of the tunnel'"...

so my first thought of course is the "oncoming train"... but i did that back in March... ;p

anyway, at lunch time i went in search of tunnels and here is one... doesn't really qualify for the challenge, but i kind of liked it anyway and it's all i've got for the day... :)

I lurk under bridges, you in tunnels. Always love your underworldly shots.

Love it - with all the pipes on the roof and the doors to the left - feels like the basement of a psych ward.

@JAV0930 - see - this is kinda what my mind does when you talk about lights and tunnels and such ;p

Super construction

Great capture, but I'm not sure it says "hope"
August 20th, 2013
@tigerdreamer yeah - i was going to wax on about that, but it got too long... long story short, i think i'm too pragmatic and logical to believe in hope... ;p

Beautiful

It makes me wonder, what's in the shadows? She looks like she is walking away from you, even when I looked at it large. It works for me, there's hope or light at the end of the tunnel, just don't get too distracted by what may or not be lurking in the shadows. Nice one Northy.

Looks like a great space! Nice shot!

This COULD BE "hope" ...he is approaching the end of the darkness, about to burst free into the light! Now, to kill all your hope, haha...I just posted an homage picture that mentions/emulates your style. I hope you do not mind!

Definitely the light at the end of the tunnel in image -- but conveying "hope" -- not so much!

So well done !!

very sin city, film noir, love it!

interesting shot.

It has a mysterious, perhaps ominous, feel to it. Well done.

i love this film noir-ish capture. beautifully done!

I agree with Martin

Wonderful light - a fantastic tunnel shot - think you've met your challenge really well.
August 20th, 2013
very nice in a creepy way...lol
August 20th, 2013
Well, you took the saying quite literal lol it is a very nice shot. And I like @espyetta's view on it so I guess it works through symbolism :)

Yes looks like a movie still. Very slick n cool as usual northy.

I'd say this is "hope" more for the viewer (or, in other words the photog) than for the person in the light. I'm sure that if you put this up in an art gallery with 'Hope' as the title, most people would find a story and interpretation to it. This reminds me of that one shot of mine that a friend wanted to buy because it'd help her fight depression. I didn't originally see it like that, but she did and it was awesome. Aaaanyway, great shot! ;)

Wonderful light - and to capture the person in the centre of the opening - posed or candid. Either way, well done.
August 20th, 2013
Awesome work as always! :)
August 20th, 2013
Very cool light in this - especially along those walls on the left.
August 20th, 2013
@humphreyhippo tx HH! I did quite like the light along the wall as well - although in hindsight I think perhaps I shld have toned it down so it doesn't compete as much w the person in the doorway...
August 20th, 2013
@pennyp tx :). It was candid... This is a high traffic area - lots of comings and goings... The challenge was to catch one line person without someone else photo bombing !!

Why does he look so furtive? :D
August 20th, 2013
@Cheesebiscuit why do you think he looks furtive? ;).

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder!
August 20th, 2013
@northy My guilty conscience? :D
August 20th, 2013
superb silhouette - a trademark "northy" shot!
August 20th, 2013
Super, love the wet look to the scene, and until you mentioned it, never noticed she was walking the other way :P

The strong light at the far end and the lines all take my eye that way, but really it wants to focus on that wonderful light on wall and ground. So there is a tension.... I like it a lot!

Dark and mysterious xx

Love the feel of this one.

This is so powerful and hope is the most pragmatic of feelings - it's absence is the foundation of despair - I love the light - the way the figure draws the eye to the prospect of limitless space - of liberation - the deep indigo tones - pure genius.
