film noir - through the back window by northy

film noir - through the back window

it took a lot of experimenting (and a fair bit of editing) to get the lighting to this point and i'm still not happy with it... why can i do silhouettes when i'm not trying, but i can't when i am? anyway, happy for any input on getting a better silhouette feel to this...

for the old hollywood theme and also for 5+2... this was taken from my yard, looking in thru the back window... thank heavens for remote shutter releases!!!
Very cool shot

ha!! very cool! love the light and the processing!

Great shot Norhty…personally I like that you're not in silhouette…the low lighting on the face and the well lit arm give the shot depth.

Wow, very dramatic, love it!

Full of drama and suspense, love it!

I hadn't thought of trying to do an interpretation of a particular movie, only trying to capture the essence of old Hollywood (and failed to come up with anything). Nice one! What I need now is a giant white bunny suit...

@kaesebiscuit i wouldn't have either - but it's just kinda what flew thru my mind when i saw the 5+2 theme was window... plus someone was asking about settings for silhouette shot and it made me think about wanting to try one deliberately :)

Love this. I think the lighting is great. The white has a great creamy quality to it. How'd you pull that off? Brilliant idea and capture. Fav.

@losthorizon tx Beau... more dumb luck than anything i think... i processed this to b&w in LR and played around a lot with exposure and cloning out things that were annoying me - but not much on the parts that are white :)

Sister North, we are our own worst critics. It's a cool shot.

@northy Which b&w preset did you use if you don't mind me asking. I usually like Creamtone. Which just made me think...is there a way to make film look like Creamtone? Hmmmm
February 23rd, 2014
Really cool!!
February 23rd, 2014
@losthorizon i didn't use any of them... i clicked thru all the silver fx presets, and all the LR bw presets and none looked right... so i just used the basic convert to bw on the righthand side panel... and didn't even play with the colour sliders (there wasn't much true colour in the shot to begin with)...
