stink eye

another attempt at refraction photography... this time using softbox pro on my iPhone, and a smallish glass of water... i'm a bit happier with this result - although i would be happier still if i could figure out how to get rid of the bubbles without using photoshop :)

btw, in case you're interested, i have chosen refractions for the next technique challenge because i figured ya'all should have the opportunity to suffer along with me as i try to figure out how to do this ;p

LOL At you making everyone suffer for the challenge :D This is another great shot though, you'll be a pro at refraction photography in no time.

Great idea (or not) for the challenge. This will definitely be interesting. And I do like this one a lot! If you figure out the bubbles issue, will you post?

Is that a bottle? Great modern art is coming out of these photos!

Cool...looks like a totem face!

Really like this one! This is a good technique for macro too, potentially. This was done using my TV but didn't like it much either. http://365project.org/archaeofrog/365/2013-05-11 Only time I've tried.

Awesome capture. Love the lines of pattern.

Also really interesting! Do you think you might not get the bubbles if you use cooled boiled water? Works with ice cubes I know.

I like this one too, lovely fingerprint pattern, but in the other one the refraction idea is more obvious.

So neat! :) Well done you!

Cool shot. Included this technique when I did light painting with a torch back at the beginning of February - http://365project.org/pennyp/365/2014-02-01. Going to have another go for your challenge. 😉

Oh, wow! Very cool!
March 11th, 2014
cool effect - could you try with cooled boiled water, so with the bubbles boiled out?
March 11th, 2014
Every time I've attempted this with my p&s, I've been unable to do it. It just doesn't like being confused as to what it should be focusing on! This result though is very eye-catching!

@olivetreeann tx Ann... i did resort to manual focussing for this because you're right - auto focus just can't quite figure it out!

I did see the technique challenge. This looks really good! I do have a crystal ball, but should try something different like this.

Outstanding. FAV Wish I wanted to do cool stuff like this.
March 12th, 2014
Wonderful, looks like a fingerprint - love the strong graphic

@jantan Jan has suggested the answer to the bubbles issue - use cooled (not cold) boiled water... she beat me to it.
