took me not-so-nifty fifty out for a walk today to see if i could learn to love it... the f/1.8 is of course a bunch of fun... but i remain dubious about the fixed focal length of 50mm... just not much i can do with it...
Well done -- love the contrast, light and shadow, focus on the plant. I know what you mean about the nifty fifty. You can take either long distance or close up shots but you can't get large things like buildings without stepping, back, back until you realize your view is now blocked by another building -- one good thing about a fixed focal length lens is the way it forces you to look for interesting details in things that won't fit in the view finder.
I love my nifty fifty light weight and compact and because it's fixed you have to look for the shot more. This is a fab shot making the most of the F1.8 well done
Love the curves in this. I don't have a fifty, but I was just saying to my sister that I hate that my two lenses split just there. I think I need about a 24-150 range
This is gorgeous! Love the lighting and the slice of focus.
I have a real soft spot for 35mm & 50mm primes. If I had a full frame camera, I doubt the 50mm would ever come off. It's a bit narrow on a crop though.
nice curves, love the black background. The plant against the black could've looked awesome too ? I use fixed focal lengths exclusively these days. The quality of the images is better, and it forces me to think more about composition. I agree that 50mm is not very handy focal length with a 1.6x crop sensor, which makes the lens actually a 80mm... 35mm equals 50mm with 1.6x crop, and it feels very natural to use.
@janim weeeeeeelllll... the black background kinda evolved if you know what i mean... so i really couldn't have done the leafy bit against black without a bunch of tricky editing... speaking of sharpness of lenses, i keep meaning to do some comparison shots using my various lenses to get a sense of relative quality... hmmm... something to think about doing when nothing else comes to mind ;p
FAV.
You've done pretty well with it here.
Love this...great stuff. Apologies for not checking in in ages.
Lack of time is a terrible excuse but it's true...it's been manic for me recently.
Just looking through some of your shots is inspiring. I love how dark and moody but very dramatic some of your shots are. You use of limited colour is just great and you have a very distinct style all of your own.
Great stuff.
