spread your wings - take flight

... that choose by show,
Not learning more than the fond eye doth teach;
Which prize not to the interior,
--Shakespeare
"Merchant of Venice" (Act 2, Scene 9)

for the "f" word challenge... this week the word is "fond"... ok, yeah, a bit of a stretch... but it was either this or come up with something for "fond hopes" and i hadn't done a shadow play shot in a while...

very cool! You are turning into a PS master!!

Super, is this a composite?
November 2nd, 2015
@trm tx TR - yes - a composite... One shot w bird, one shot w queen... Layered in PS, w bird masked out to expose the queen... And a third layer for the texture...

@taffy tx Taffy... yes it's PS... the PS part is easy peasy... setting up is a bit tricky... my brain is fried, so i'm not sure i'm going to be able to explain this well... Basically, you take two (somethimes 3) shots without moving the camera... one shot for the shadow, one for the subject and one with no props in case you need this for clean up... open as layers in PS and mask out the thing that was used for the shadow, leaving the main subject behind... the tricky bit is to get the light so it casts the shadow, but doesn't cause overlap between the subject and the shadow... if you have overlap, then the PS work becomes a bit of a pain...

does any of that make sense? i might be able to explain it better after a good night's sleep ;p

@northy Yes, it does make sense. It will challenge my knowledge of layers and masking with is at the 'darn, I don't remember how to do this, but I know I did it once' phase. So it would be a good exercise to work on, even if it isn't getting me to a post-able photo for awhile. Thanks!
