The elusive Mount Fitz Roy by northy

The elusive Mount Fitz Roy

Elusive because it is often hidden by clouds…. They stopped the bus on the way to the trail head so we could all take pictures…

It was a looooooooong trek this day…. 14 miles including a bit where we gained some 1000 feet of elevation over a mile…. Brutal! Only two of us from the group decided to go for it…. Worth it, but a tad punishing…. I was so beat at the end of the day i barely made it through dinner…
Wonderful

FANTASTIC!! I thought I would pass out before I made it to the top but it never occurred to me to give up. And when I got to the top of that long hike -- especially that last mile -- I was amazed by that view. Mine had two lakes on top -- yours is super roomy view of FitzRoy. Were you on the Argentinian side?

@jyokota actually - this was taken from the road…. Our bus driver stopped because the clouds had cleared and didn’t want us to miss what might be the only chance to view the peak…. The trek took us to Laguna de Los Tres…. There was a lake up there and a pretty spectacular view no matter which way you looked…. It’s going to take me a while to get through all the pictures and figure out which ones to post…. 🙃

@northy You took the same hike I did -- that grueling last mile up and spectacular view! We camped for three nights, then came back into town for one night (shower, bed, wash clothes) and repeated for another three nights.

@jyokota OMG!!!! You did that climb twice? And CAMPED there? The winds were punishing! I only did the one climb and my pack was comparatively light (given that i was not overnighting)…
