A bird and two napkin rings - Camera Settings Challenge

The object of the exercise was to change the internal camera settings when shooting monochrome and compare the results... I think this gives a better sense of the differences the various settings make as compared to my previous effort... and this time i've included the colour version for comparison...

Nice one! Great challenge! I tried it out today and learned a lot from this. I'm going to try a new subject tonight but wanted to say thanks for the challenge, I've never played with the contrast and filters within the camera.

I just realized you didn't start the challenge. I don't know why I thought it was you but I love your entry and I love how you added the color shot as well. Nice job!

Great series! I personally like the high contrast myself.

The color really helps to see which colors are effected. This is great.

Cool collage :)

Nice collage, my blue one did not come out that blue... not sure why, need to try again. Where did you create this in? Not too happy with my Picasa one

very cool

Ooooh nice one! My fave is the red filter one.

your good at this. Perfect coloured items to highlight the difference the setting make. You are the B&W master!

This really shows the effect of the red filter!

Accurate job, task perfectly carried out.

Not convinced at all by shooting in B&W, colour then post process will allways be much better.

@jase_h I've gone over to the dark side and now mostly shoot RAW ... Although i do use monochrome occasionally when I want to do a bunch of diary shots of the kids without worrying abot flash (bw handles the high iso better) and without fussing over processing... I have a mono picture style set for high contrast, high sharpness and incr saturation and it generally works ok - not high art, but still crisp and serves the purppse

I love the way you've done this. It's a very striking way to show the difference between various settings. Fav.

Cool! I want to do this one. Just need to find the right item...
February 13th, 2013
Thanks for that! Should print it out and keep it in my photobag :) Now I want to try it out too :)

One of the things I need to learn to do with my camera....get into the guts and play! This is wonderful...it really shows what is affected!
