As I was walking by City Hall this morning, this is the scene that met my eye... I am convinced the gentleman sitting on the cooler had set up that table, chairs, place settings and flowers and was waiting upon his beloved to share breakfast with him... (or maybe he's a photog waiting for the model, but hey, didn't see any equipment!)...
This is a very tiny crop of a much larger photo... a wider crop is in my other album... one question i have is whether this image works better as above, or if the wider crop does a better job of communicating how public this spot is... and any other thoughts you might have as well... http://365project.org/northy/just-because/2013-04-09
I like both but like the other one better, it just puts it in an unusual place.. This shot could be an outside cafe. but the other.. with the people milling about and the building.. hope that made sense.
This just has a different feel - because you showed us the other as well, we now have a choice, but if I just saw this one, I'd like it just as much as I like the other. Did that make any sense?! :)
@northy you said it yourself :) This one works but the other one tells more of a story. You get a sense of space in the other one... where it is all happening. But in the other one your eye doesn't zoom in on the guy waiting (no leading lines, no one looking his way, etc.) so he gets lost in the crowd.
I prefer the other one, but there are obviously good elements in this shot too. Diptych ? In comics there is often a big picture of the space & person in it, then a smaller picture inside the big one, focusing on the person.... same concept could be applied ?
I thinh this one is awesame.. the "snacks" word on the other one makes me feel as though he waits for his ordered snack.. I missed that he is sitting on some kind of ice box.. but this one is mysterious.. I consume from his body language that he waits.. well what does he wait for.. great one..
I really can't decide, both are so different. At first I preferred this but now I prefer the other one- I think possibly because of the signs and other people. They're both great shots and I'll probably change my mind again soon. :)
The other one gives the sense of where he is but this one gives the sense of waiting better...I agree with the poster above who said that without leading lines or anything, to the sitter in the other one, your eye doesn't tend to focus on him. I wonder if your bright area centered on him, more than on the table, in the other shot it would work better?
Aaaahhhh, this is better than the other one! I think the other people were distracting as there was no clear focus on the guy, even though he's in the middle, he was kinda small in the wider shot. As for this one, I love the combination of textures, the composition is great, but most of all, the anticipation on his face is priceless. And the b&w make it even more pronounced. So lucky you caught him looking at the table. Fav!
I know this is older, but I was just browsing and came across it...Both are well composed and eye-appealing, but this one makes me wonder more at the story -- the idea of waiting, for whom and why, while still being an interesting composition.
