The tension in this shot is almost unbearable - the hind's protective awareness and the fawn's frozen uncertainty. A great moment captured and this is the first time I have seen these long-tailed deer. fav for lots of reasons.

It had rained that morning and there were not many people on the trail before us, so the deer was still grazing when we approached them. The mom walked over to where her fawn was lying down, then they wondered off deeper into the woods.
