Dogberry

This very small bright orange berry (1/4 inch) is not very tasty at all and I learned the hard way. It's from the American mountain ash tree.

Many years ago my father-in-law (who is from Newfoundland) showed me these berries while out for a walk. He wanted me to try one and I was not convinced (as I've never had one before), so he ate one without any hint of their true flavour. So...... I tried it and was not impressed, but everyone had a good laugh. It is a great memory.

(Day #1 Berry)
Good memories, sorry it wasn't such a good taste. Is there any use for them, such as for jams?

Typical father in law trick! But it does look beautiful. I once bought some rowan berry jam and it was very bitter, so I imagine that this is similar.

@cgribben Yes Charlene, they are used for jams, but not by anyone I know. LOL

@Weezilou Louise, I'm guessing if you like sweet jams, this would not be one to make that list. I'm sure the taste is the reason we don't see this jam sold her in local stores.
