High Tide In Short Wellies

A High Tide In Short Wellies

By Ray Lonsdale and was donated to the people of Filey by Maureen Robinson
(Who also sculpted and donated the sculptor in yesterday’s posting)

Locally known as Finlay is a steel giant of a sculpture standing 12 feet tall and is made from weathering steel, it is highly detailed and imitates the texture of the anglers clothing. The sculpture makes a powerful statement about the decline of the fishing industry.

Filey was a leading fishery for hundreds of years and was the most important fishing station on the Yorkshire Coast long.

That’s it for me I’ll see you later,
gonna wrap this catch in protective paper.
gonna face the sea with a thousand mile stare,
and wish that I was floating there
In its summertime

Down on the pier I saw a man with a board,
it read ‘the end is near accept your lord.’
Then underneath some fisherman wrote
‘I can see the end from the back of my boat’
This is wintertime
That's a great sculpture and I love the poem.
