Bestwood Lodge by oldjosh

Bestwood Lodge

Between 1862 and 1865 the 10th Duke of St. Albans had the earlier lodge demolished and replaced with a grand ornate gothic style building costing £23,000, an absolute fortune at the time.
In the 1970’s the lodge became a hotel. Interestingly Charles Beauclerk writer and artist in residence at Bestwood Lodge Hotel is a direct descendant of Charles II and Nell Gwyn whose son was given the title of Duke of St Albans
It was the 10th Duke who leased the land to John Lancaster who started the Bestwood Coal Mine.
Lovely collage and interesting story.
