I stopped beside the canal and this young coot came rushing across the water calling loudly, followed by its three siblings and then the parents. I did not have any duck food with me so when I did not feed them they stared pestering one of their parents; the other one had come to join me on the tow path. Earlier I had watched one of the little ones diving for food.
