Dedicated to the 508th P.I.R.

Wollaton Park
During WW2, Wollaton Park, Nottingham, was used as a base for allied forces and a prisoner of war camp. In 1944 a “tent City” in the parked housed 2,000 men of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment. They were one of the first units to fight in France on D-Day and later in the year were dropped into Holland for the battle of Arnhem (operation Market Garden)
Causalities were high and many men never returned to the USA but whilst here they came to look at Nottingham as a home from home. Many surviving soldiers had fond memories of Wollaton Park, its deer and Hall, Lasting friendships and relationships were forged with Nottingham people.
