I will be posting photos over the next few days of our trip out to Fingal Island last Wednesday.
It was a beautiful day and so warm. A lovely calm winters day.
The top left photo is of some of our group getting off the boat. You will see we had to remove our shoes and socks and roll up our trousers too, luckily the water was calm and not too cold.
The top right and centre left photos are of the lighthouse and the remains lighthouse keepers cottages.
Centre middle row is of the actual light.
Centre right is of our group outside the lighthouse.
Bottom left is of the spiral staircase in the lighthouse and the bottom right is of Shoal Bay from Fingal Island showing three of the beaches. Left Box Beach, centre Wreck Beach and right Zenith Beach.
I have only ever been over to the island before by walking across The Spit which I have posted photos of before, but when walking across that way we have to be careful to catch the tides at the right time as the sand bar closes over quickly and it is easy to be trapped on the island.
Some people have drowned returning across The Spit after the tide has turned. It can be quite dangerous, and people don't realize the power of the ocean.
Luckily because we went over by boat this time, we were able to explore the island more fully and we were there for about 3 hours. I was surprised to see just how large it is. Also, we were able to go inside the lighthouse too which is only open when you go on an official visit to the island.
Interesting story and a great collage of lovely shots. Good idea to go on a boat tour as, according to what you said, it could be very dangerous for those who do not know the place.
