Today we went to a meeting which was held at Heatherbrae Botanic Gardens. After the meeting we had lunch at the centre and then went for a wander around the gardens.
There were so many things to photograph I was spoilt for choice. I did think of putting in a flower, but as my daughter often says, "Mum is so not a flower person." So I have decided to stay true to form and put in this king parrot instead which was busily eating his afternoon tea.
It has been a beautiful day today, a bit cooler than yesterday, thank heaven. I can imagine the fire fighters are thankful too. Yesterday there were 40 bush fires in our region. Luckily the nearest to us was about 20 km away.
Babs this is a fabulous shot, I love King Parrots, great bokeh too and a fav! We could smell the smoke and see it in the sky yesterday.I went to Sydney Botanical Gardens yesterday, I always love it there.
@steampowered Thanks Paul. So many birds around today. Also lots of kangaroos hopping through the gardens too. As I was focused on this shot, three roos hopped past.
@angelat Thanks Angela. He wasn't a bit bothered that I was taking photos of him. Must be used to people with cameras. I thought he would fly off as I got closer, but obviously the food was good.
@joluise I suspect they may be seed pods. Not sure though. Most of the trees in the gardens are native to attract birds and other wildlife. The parrot certainly liked them whatever they were. He didn't even fly off as I got closer. His Mrs was close by, but she a bit more hidden.
@iwatts Thanks Ian. What a lovely thing to say. Thanks too for the fav. I was walking along the path at the gardens when I spotted this parrot. The light was wrong so had to stray into the scrub to take it. As it is spring, the snakes are waking up and I was only wearing sandals!!! You have to live dangerously sometimes though don't you. There is a sign at the botanic gardens which says "Give way to snakes and goanna's"!!!!
@gamelee@derekvickers@humphreyhippo Thanks. We are so lucky here to have such colourful birds. so lucky too to be able to see them in the wild instead of in cages like they are in other countries.
@onewing "Give way to snakes and goanna's" - lol - never in England - the biggest danger we would face is getting a bit dirty. Have a look at my latest upload - inspired by you... :)
@iwatts We did get a bit dirty too. Made a not to myself, don't go to Heatherbrae Gardens unless you are wearing boots. My feet were black when I got home. Ha ha. Just commented on your photo, Love it. Brilliant. could be a spiders necklace too.
@paulaw Thanks so much for the fav Paula. Have lived here 24 years and have only ever seen two live snakes in the wild, luckily. Have seen lots of "relaxed" ones on the road though. A couple of roos skipped past me while I was taking this photo and I looked out for a goanna, but couldn't spot one, pity. they are beautiful.
@eyesmile Thanks so much Gena. He wasn't too close, I did have to zoom for this shot, but he certainly wasn't shy. His Mrs was nearby, but I couldn't get a clear shot of her. Thanks for the fav .
Great capture. I still get very excited when I spot these exotic birds. Glad you weren't affected by the fires. Makes you wonder what summer will be like!
@goosemanning Missed your comment on this picture the other day. Sorry. It has gone a bit cooler her now and we have had some rain too which was well needed.
