Bush fire victim

This morning we went out with our walking group to Fingal Bay. Unfortunately, the walk which was planned around the bushland at Fingal wasn't possible because of the recent bush fires which are still smoking in places. This picture shows some of the devastation and one of the fire victims.
Oh my...what a story this image tells!! Hoping the owner got out safely. Great capture!!

Jo
I was wondering how close you were to the fires - so sad to see these fires so early in the season, not a good sign at all.

@eyesmile @yaorenliu @joluise Thanks. We were out with our walking group this morning and the planned route for the walk had to be changed because the area at Fingal Bay was closed off because of the bush fires. I don't think the person who owns this bike will be riding it again.

Great find, but such a shame.

Amazing photo! At first I thought that was snow on the ground but I guess it is ash?
October 17th, 2013
@angelat Thanks Angela. and also for the fav. Such a sad picture though.
October 17th, 2013
@tesssa Thanks Tessa. What sort of summer are we heading towards.
October 17th, 2013
@humphreyhippo There are fires all around NSW at the moment. Pretty devastating and it is only spring @sbolden
October 17th, 2013
What a sorry sight Babs, stay safe!
October 17th, 2013
@sbolden Thanks Scott. No it isn't snow or ash it is sand because the bushland is by the ocean and because the fire was so intense all the undergrowrth has burnt away and also the topsoil, leaving the sand underneath. Fires are still burning across New South Wales at the moment and some houses have been lost. I think we are in for a long hot spring and summer.

@paulaw Thanks Paula. My sister arrived here a few days ago and she has never been here before. I think she is wondering what she has come to!!
October 17th, 2013
Is any rain expected sometime soon Babs?
October 17th, 2013
@paulaw We never know. Rain could be expected today as it has gone cooler, but then the weekend is up to 37 degrees c again maybe. The end of next week they forecast rain, but it could still miss us, very often does!! Only had 3 days of rain since the beginning of September!!!!

All though sad, a great shot Babs, fav! Hi Anita, hope you enjoy your trip down under
October 18th, 2013
What a great shot Babs, this really does tell a story, fav. For me
October 18th, 2013
Fabulous shot Babs! I reckon that this would make a brilliant, gritty B&W image too.

Lee
Well spotted, that must have been quite a bush fire.
October 18th, 2013
Instant Fav! Sad story, fires are so devastating. Your image is fabulous and haunting.
October 19th, 2013
@angelat thanks so much for the fav Angela. No smoke in the air today.
October 19th, 2013
@bugsy Thanks for the fav Heather. You will see Anita on Tuesday at the club.
October 19th, 2013
@winnedreamer Wow, thanks for the fav Nicki, such a sad shot though.
October 19th, 2013
@steampowered Thanks Paul. I did try it in b&w but it looked better in colour. The burnt look of the bike was lost in the b&w version.
October 19th, 2013
@gamelee Thanks Lee. Just at the back of Fingal Bay is a huge area of bushland and it did come really close to the houses. Luckily no houses were lost in this fire. The one about 25 km away at Heatherbrae burnt out about 5000 hectares of bush I believe and some houses were lost in that fire.

@sunraye Thanks so much for the fav Raye. Although sad, it did tell a story. All quiet again today though, no smoke in the air at the moment.

Boo
oh gosh! I shall fav this as well..not because it makes me smile but because of what it represents.

Deb
That is a great image. Really sums up the devastation.
October 20th, 2013
@huvesaker Thanks so much for the fav. It tells a story doesn't it. This was our closest fire. The other was about 25 km away and a friend of ours had a house in the middle of it. Luckily the fire just went over his house and only did a little damage.
October 20th, 2013
@gypsy6
Thanks Deb. It came right up to the houses at Fingal.
October 20th, 2013
How poignant - it says it all doesn't it?
October 21st, 2013
@smiffy37 Thanks Eileen. This particular fire at Fingal Bay, we found out on the news tonight, was deliberately lit by an 11 year old boy. The other fire in our area at Heatherbrae was delibedrately lit by a 15 year old boy. I am speechless as to why kids do this sort of thing.

The fires in the Blue Mountains near Sydney which are raging at the moment have burnt out 45,000 hectares of bush land and it is still only spring here. I think we are in for a rather scary summer.
