Today has been a long day, we spent the morning in Maitland where David had a medical appointment and the afternoon in Newcastle.
Today's photo is one of the many artworks which appeared in Newcastle over the weekend as part of the Hit the Bricks Festival.
Hit the Bricks is a three day street art festival which saw Newcastle CBD transformed with works of art by some of Australia’s best street artists. Their canvases were brick walls and their brushes were spray cans. This is one of the murals that has appeared in Newcastle in the last few days as part of the festival.
Melbourne based artist “Adnate” spent two days spraying this striking portrait of an Aboriginal child on the side of a building overlooking Newcastle harbour.
Incredible artwork Babs..and a great capture. It is amazing that a can of spray paint can create such lovely art work. If you are artistically talented you can create with anything available. I am artistically challenged...but have great appreciation for those who are so blessed. This is such a great capture to share!
@gamelee Thanks Lee. There are quite a few artworks scattered around Newcastle and by the time I got to this one the light wasn't perfect, but I think this is my favourite of the works.
@eyesmile Thanks Gena. The artworks are all fantastic, but this one is just brilliant I think. I am with you being artistically challenged, I have trouble drawing stick men!!
@winnedreamer I think this is one of my favourite and the one on the corner of King and Derby Street is pretty good too. They are all amazing though. Take your walking shoes if you go and see them.
wow! is this a permanent display then? Haven't been into Newcastle for quite some time. I hear there's a photographic exhibition by Bill Hensen (?) at the Newcastle Gallery.
@angelat Yes it is permanent. There are lots of artworks which have appeared in Newcastle over the weekend. If you put Hit the bricks, newcastle into Google you will get a map of where they have been painted. There are lots which were already there of course but thie map shows the latest ones which are part of the Look Hear Festival. Didn't get to the Art Gallery the other day, but I believe the Bill Henson exhibition is on until February. We were there a couple of weeks ago when we sat the Brett Whiteley Exhibition.
